Former Brazil and Barcelona striker Ronaldinho is being investigated by police in Paraguay for allegedly using a fake passport to enter the country.
The FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002 arrived in Paraguay on Wednesday for a charity event.
Police in the capital city, Asuncion searched his hotel room and found documents in question.
Paraguay’s interior minister told ESPN Brazil that the Ronaldinho has not been arrested but he is under investigation.
The interior minister told the Associate Free Press the case will be forwarded to prosecutor’s office Thursday morning.
“Ronaldinho will be heard at eight in the morning on Thursday at the prosecutor’s office,” minister Euclides Acevedo told AFP, adding that customs authorities would also be investigated.
“I respect his sporting popularity but the law must also be respected. No matter who you are, the law still applies”, Mr Acevedo told local media.
In July 2019, the player reportedly had his Brazilian and Spanish passports confiscated over unpaid taxes.
